Published by

UNITED States government officials are set to arrive in Abuja to commence training of over 50 Nigerian investigators and prosecutors in the fight against cyber crimes.

The training, according to information made available to Tribune Online, is to strengthen cybercrime first responder and digital evidence skills.

It will also review international cooperation, cyber security strategies, and civil liberty issues.

The offer is part of the contributions by the US government towards the forthcoming West Africa Cyber Initiative Bilateral Workshop scheduled to hold in Abuja next week.

US embassy in Abuja confirmed the offer to Tribune Online on Thursday.

It hinted that the offer aimed to build capacity of Nigerian law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges, legislators, and policy makers to help with the implementation of Nigeria’s cybercrime law.

‎It equally disclosed that the US government officials will train 40 judges and 10 legislators/policy makers on legal proceedings and digital evidence, while addressing cyber security campaigns, internet governance, and countering violent extremism.

‎The embassy confirmed that Maria Brewer, who is its Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim‎ is to co-ordinate the trainings.
