Dangote truck containing 1,200 cartons of smuggled poultry seized by Nigerian Customs Service on 12th July, 2017.

3,000 cartons of poultry product valued at N67.5 million have been confiscated by the Nigerian Customs Service, Ogun State Command.

The contraband goods loaded in a truck belonging to Dangote Cement was intercepted by the men of the Command at about 3.45a.m, last Saturday, at the Sagamu Interchange on the corridor of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Disclosing this on Monday, the State Comptroller of Customs, Sani Madugu, said his men acted on intelligence information on the importation of the frozen foods into the country from neighboring Cotonou.

The command also impounded two Sport Utility Vehicles and seized 17 kg of cannabis, allegedly smuggled from Republic of Benin.

Madugu explained to newsmen that the poultry product was earlier conveyed in small vehicles before they were transferred into the company’s truck in order to beat security operatives.

He said that the driver of the truck on sighting Customs operatives took to his heels while his motor boy was arrested.

The Customs boss later handed hand over the seized cannabis to the Public Relations Officer of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, Abdulahi Sardauna.
