Customs loses 26 personnel to Boko Haram

AREA controller Borno and Yobe of the Nigerian customs service Joshua Angbalaga has said that about twenty-six of its personnel have perished under the wickedness of the insurgents Boko Haram since the beginning of the crisis.

Controller Angbalaga regretted that, for an agency of government like his, involved in bringing in revenue, this human loss to the agency was a remarkable one indeed.

He, however, assured the business community in the region that in spite of the torments of the insurgents who have made their operations precarious enough for them to shut down their key operational borders leaving only two, they still overshot their revenue targets.

The controller regretted that Borno was one of the multi-million naira international revenue raking borders but have suddenly become a shadow of itself in the northeast region of the country adding that he and his men will not relent in raking in funds for the nation as soon as the eleven others will become functional again.

“I can report to you that in spite of all the torments of the insurgents, we were able to surpass our target of N62million by making over a hundred million when the month of December is not yet over yet.”

He told newsmen in a parley in Maiduguri Wednesday that most of the revenue-yielding products in the region, for now, are hides animal skin and potash with very little from imported cattle.

Angbalaga warned the public to be wary of suspecting hoodlums going about claiming that they will help them to get jobs in the customs service adding that their service is not recruiting now.

“When the customs begin to recruit we shall inform you accordingly. I assure you that anybody parading himself as having the power to help any young person come in is not telling you the truth.  He is a lying tout”
