THE Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kano /Jigawa area command has generated a sum of N25,564,708,926.25k as against N24,438,274,946.09K that was collected in the year 2020.
This was as the command has made a total of 398 seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1,021,556,789.98k from January to date.
Making the assertion on Thursday in Kano, while addressing a press conference was the Comptroller Suleiman Pai Umar, however, added that some suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures.
According to him, some of them “were handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation and prosecution. Others were granted administrative bail, while the cases are still in court.
He, however, disclosed that the Command was able to record the following items seized: 1040 (50kg) foreign rice, 2,853 cartons of spaghetti, 189 cartons of couscous,153 (25kg) of powder milk, 115 cartons of cream milk, 132 bales of second-hand cloth,89 cartons of foreign Eva soap,15 cartons batteries, 110 cartons of macaroni and 339 pieces of donkey skin all worth N187,288,815 of Duty Paid Value.
Comptroller Umar further disclosed that the command has taken delivery of five units of brand new Toyota Hilux vehicles and two units of brand new Toyota Land Cruiser as a gesture from Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd) to enhance the operations of the command.
He then added that the command has continued to work tirelessly to ensure that will carry out our anti-smuggling and revenue collection activities with utmost professionalism and successes has been recorded in both levels.
