CUPP accuses Presidency, IGP, APC, others over Akwa Ibom State of Assembly crisis

Published by

THE Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), on Tuesday accused the Presidency, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Senator Godswill Akpabio of being the architect of yesterday’s failed plot to destabilise Akwa Ibom and Impeach the State governor, Emmanuel Udom with the suspended five lawmakers‎ of the APC.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja yesterday by its National spokesman, Mr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the Group‎ accused the IGP Ibrahim Idris of running the Nigeria Police, NPF, as the Youth wing of the APC.

The Group which described Governor Udom as a hero for leading his people to resist the invaders declared that President Mohamadu ‎ Buhari and The APC’s desperation to take over the State by force was capable of causing a repeat of the 1983 wild west crisis that led to the collapse of constitutional governance.

It called on the United Kingdom, the United States of America to place a visa ban of senator Akpabio, APC National Chairman, the Inspector general of police and any other politicians involved in the impunity at the State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

According to the Statement, “CUPP received with rude shock today the news of another display of impunity and legislative rascality by five suspended members of the Akwa Ibom state Assembly who are apparently being sponsored by senator Goodwill Akpabio, his APC government and other anti-Democratic forces desperate to impeach the state governor Emmanuel Udom.

“We are more worried that these five lawmakers and their paymasters could unleash this mayhem on the state Assembly for the second time in less than two weeks without any arrest by the police and other relevant security agents in the State.

“We heard on good authority that these hoodlums imported by these sponsored five lawmakers forced their way into the legislative house at the early hours of today with the aid of a contingent of policemen drafted by the Inspector of General of Police (IGP) Mr Ibrahim Idris, the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole to destabilise the State Assembly.

“The suspended five State Assembly members with the support of the police again force their way into the chambers to first sack the speaker, elect a new one and thereafter constitute a kangaroo committee to commence impeachment proceedings against the state governor

“This conspiracy will never work, not even when Nigerians have rejected APC at all levels

“We the opposition parties condemn in strong terms this attempted rape on our democracy by a few misguided elements in the state and their paymasters

“This desperation by president Mohammadu Buhari and his APC to take over Akwa Ibom state even ahead of 2019 general election is capable of leading to a repeat of the unfortunate political drama that truncated our democracy in 1983

“We will not seat down therefore and allow Akpabio and his APC sponsored agents to destabilise Akwa Ibom state Assembly and by extension create another political recipe for a possible collapse of our democracy.

“The opposition parties, however, commend the governor of the state Chief Udom and the good people of the state for resisting this undemocratic act by these disgruntled politicians.

“We call on the people of the state to be ever vigilant and never allow senator Akpabio, and his APC cohorts to remove the speaker or governor in an undemocratic manner.”
