Cultists kill policeman in Ondo

Published by

ARMED men suspected to be cultists, on Sunday night, in Akure, Ondo State capital, gunned down a police officer, Sunday Solomon, attached to the Okuta Elerinla Division of the state Police Command.

According to a source, the 30 year old Police Corporal was said to be returning from work on Sunday before he was attacked by his assailants and was shot severally.

According to him, the men left the police officer in his pool of blood after confirming that he was dead before leaving the scene of the incident.

He however explained that Solomon was a member of a secret cult saying that the policeman belonged to a rival cult group in the area and the attack was a reprisal attack to avenge the death of one of the assailants.

He said, “He belonged to a rival cult group, it was the rival cultist group that trailed him to this point and killed him to avenge the death of one of their members who was killed recently.”

He said about three other incidents had happened in the capital city of Akure in the last few weeks, with cultist avenging the death of their members.

Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph said the command had commenced investigation into the killing of the police officer but did not confirm whether the deceased was a member of secret cult.

Joseph said “We have commenced investigation on the matter; it is a real murder case. However we can’t confirm if he (deceased) belonged to a secret cult but as I said we are still investigating the incident and I am assuring you that the perpetrators will be brought to book”
