A coalition of 87 civil society organisations, under the umbrella of Movement For Transparency & Accountability (MTA), has expressed concern over the treatment of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The activists urge the EFCC to ensure that Bello’s rights are respected and that he is not subjected to unfair treatment.
The MTA Convener, Chinedu Wisdom Ohalete, highlighted the importance of the EFCC maintaining its neutrality and ensuring that all individuals are treated equally under the law.
He emphasised that the commission’s actions should be guided by the principles of justice and fairness.
The coalition called on the EFCC to focus on the court case against Bello and avoid engaging in actions that could be perceived as unfair or biased.
They emphasised the need for the EFCC to operate within the law and respect human rights, especially given Nigeria’s low global ranking in this area.
The activists urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the EFCC maintains its independence and operates in a manner that promotes transparency and accountability.
They emphasised that the EFCC’s actions should be guided by the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for human rights.
