The Cherubim and Seraphim Church (Mountain of Goodness and Mercy) Nigeria, in conjunction with the New Hope Church of God, United States of America (USA), has concluded a three-day intensive community intervention programme that impacted on the lives of hundreds of poor and middle-class people in the Agege area of Lagos state.
This is a second phase of the annual event, tagged ‘Encounter,’ which the two not-for-profit organisations have cooperated to organise, with thousands of people with medical outreach as well as ministering to the spiritual and material needs of the people.
This year’s Encounter programme started with free medical check and treatment for various ailments on Wednesday, May 15, and continued till Thursday, May 16, with over 400 people in attendance on both days.
According to the host and head of Mountain of Goodness and Mercy, Lady Prophet Funmi Arojah Owolabi; “the co-host from the USA, who is also a medical doctor, Bishop Philip Bonaparte M. D., was on ground to attend to all patients, assisted by the church’s nurses, pharmacologists, pharmacists and HIV/AIDS counselors.”
The programme continued on Friday with a power-packed vigil at the Blue Roof Event Centre, Ibido Street, Agege.
Also speaking at the close of the programme, Dr Bonaparte said; “in two days, we saw over 400 people. We gave away reading eye glasses to hundreds, after screening and appropriately testing them. We treated patients with stroke level elevated blood pressure and newly-diagonised diabetics with sugar over 600mg/dL. We, however, ran out of medications and had to send pharmacists, at least, four times to purchase extra medications for the needy.
“People were also screened for HIV/AIDS, STI, STDs and malaria.”
Lady Prophet Owolabi explained further that the mission also “paid a courtesy visit to the number one citizen of Orile Agege, the community where C&S Mountain of Goodness and Mercy church is located, Honourable S. A. Babatunde. “We went for a live radio programme on Bond FM on Tuesday night to talk more about the programme.”
The charity programme fashioned after community service to meet basic medical and other needs of poor and middle-class people started in 2018.
