CRUTECH matriculates 6,250 students, set to change name to UNICROSS

Published by

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) formerly known as the Cross River University Of Technology (CRUTECH), has marked its 19th matriculation ceremony for over 6,250 students in Calabar, as the last matriculation as CRUTECH, with a charge on students to exchange ignorance with knowledge and grow from boys and girls to women and men.

Addressing members of the University Governing Council, students and participants at the event, at the main campus of the university, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Augustine Angba, said it was the last Matriculation that would be held in the university as CRUTECH, adding that further Matriculations would hold after the school had formerly and completely rebranded or changed her name from CRUTECH to UNICROSS, a process that has already begun.

“I welcome you all to this 19th Matriculation ceremony of CRUTECH, now UNICROSS. To my fresh and Matriculation students, today’s ceremony is not just to wear academic gowns, it is not an event for you to showcase your victory over JAMB, it is an initiation into the ivory tower, a place where your intellect is homed. A place where erstwhile unquestioned ideas, ate turned unto intellectual quest, a place where ignorance is turned unto knowledge, a place where you are to grow into a man and woman of impeachable character, for the purpose of enhancing humanity”, the VC said.

The VC further cautioned students to shun internet fraud (Yahoo-yahoo), cultism and related negative social vices.

“It is my desire and prayer that in the next four or five years, you all will gather here for convocation. Reject any activity, cult yahoo-yahoo and other associations that will take you out of your dreams. Refuse to listen to those staff and students who propagate the idea, that you can only get good grades through sorting. This is not true, the university condemns sorting completely and in strong terms”, he further admonished.

He called on all relevant stakeholders to join hands to build a lasting legacy.

Reacting briefly after the event, one of the students, who identified herself as Annabel, joy and confidence at the event.

“I am Annabel from the Faculty of Communication Technology. I am so happy, I feel great. I will do my best to finish well and make my family and patients proud,” she said.

Also speaking, Tony Takom from Engineering Faculty said ” I am happy for the Matriculation, I hope to have a wonderful time in the university.”
