Cross River State Government, represented by the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, has praised the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS) for its dedication to sustainable energy during a pre-commissioning inspection of a 245KW solar energy system at the church’s headquarters.
During the inspection in Calabar, the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, lauded the initiative, calling it a prime example of corporate social responsibility that aligns with the state’s renewable energy goals.
He remarked, “I have reviewed their control room and can confidently assert that high-quality equipment has been installed.”
Williams encouraged other organizations to emulate BCS, stressing that sustainable energy efforts shouldn’t depend solely on governmental support.
“When you take the first step, the government will be there to back you,” he emphasized, noting that the system has the potential to improve security by decreasing local crime by 70%.
The commissioner expressed his gratitude to Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his consistent support and vision for advancing renewable energy in the state.
“Together, we are laying the foundation for a sustainable future—not just for our state, but for future generations,” he added.
Williams also praised the project contractor for their quality work and recognised the universal Leader of BCS, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, for leading this initiative.
He called the project a demonstration of Cross River’s capacity to utilize clean energy and thanked Obu for his ongoing prayers and support for the Otu administration.
Engr. Odilanma Onya, the Head of Electrical at BCS, confirmed that the system is already operational, greatly diminishing energy costs, noise pollution, and dependence on the national grid.
“The hybrid system will deliver at least 20 hours of electricity daily in the first phase, with a second phase set to begin shortly,” Onya reported.
Ogar Osim, Managing Director of Star Cross TV, expressed enthusiasm for the project’s completion, noting its alignment with the state government’s focus on energy development and its potential to boost the local economy and improve security.
Osim further announced that the official launch of the Green Energy system will take place on April 19, 2025, at the BCS headquarters, coinciding with the annual Universal Gathering, which is expected to draw worshippers from around the globe to Cross River.
