Cross River State Electrification Agency has embarked on an inspection tour to Ikot Okpora community in Biase Local Government Area to inspect the failed electrification project in order to assess the level of damage and proffer possible solutions to ensure that the community enjoys uninterrupted power supply.
Speaking during the inspection tour, the Director General, State Electrification Agency, Dr. Jake Otu Enyia, who was represented by the Director Maintenance and supply, Honourable Uduak Akiba, stated that the purpose of the visit was to ascertain the extent of damage on the failed electrification project in order to restore electricity in the community.
The DG also informed the residents and community leaders of Ikot Okpora that Governor Ayade was very passionate about rural electrification, adding that power supply was fundamental to rural development and economic emancipation.
“We are working towards ensuring that rural areas are electrified so that there would be development and the state government has invested a lot in this regard.’’
He assured that the Agency would ensure that every community in Cross River State was properly electrified and appealed to the residents and community leaders to reciprocate the kind gesture by protecting electrical infrastructure in their domain and also support Governor Ayade’s policies, projects and programmes which were people oriented.
Responding on behalf of the residents of the community, His Royal Highness, Onun Ekpo Obo Bassey Ekpo, Village Head of Ikot Okpora, appreciated Governor Ben Ayade for his concern to the plight of the rural dwellers and the Director General State Electrification Agency, Dr Jake Otu Enyia, for his prompt response by sending his team of engineers to inspect the failed project
Onun Ekpo Obo Bassey Ekpo also assured the governor of the protection of all electrical materials and infrastructure in their domain and also pledged the un-alloyed support of Ikot Okpora Community to his administration.
Also speaking, the Women Leader of Ikot Okpora Community Rev. Mrs. E. E. Henshaw, commended the governor for his magnanimity and pledged the support of the women to his administration.
