Credit card fraud: Court grants Naira Marley bail

Fast-rising hip hop artist, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley was on Thursday granted bail of N2 million by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

The Judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted Naira Marley bail of N2m with two responsible sureties who must show evidence of landed property in Lagos.

The artist had spent 20 days in custody before he was finally granted bail.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had dragged Naira Marley before the court on an 11 count charge of alleged credit fraud.

Tribune Online further recalls that the EFCC had filed the charge against the artist on Tuesday, May 14.

Naira Marley had however pleaded not guilty when the counts were read to him when he was arraigned.

In view of his pleas, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, asked the court for a trial date.

He also prayed for accelerated hearing of the case and urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody.

Part of the  charge reads: “That you, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, aka Naira Marley, and Yard Isril (still at large), on or about the 26th day of November 2018, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, conspired amongst yourselves to use access card 5264711020433662 issued to persons other than you in a bid to obtain gain and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27(1)(b) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act 2015 and punishable under Section 33(2) of the Same Act.
