Crazy things we’ve done in the name of fashion

The line between crazy, trendy and stylish is sometimes so blurred, especially when subsumed under the candy-coatedof fashion and the individual’s taste, which, in the long run, is established under what makes the person comfortable, even if the entire world thinks otherwise.

In spite of these labels, there are social conformities, and much of what falls outside these categories can be considered ‘crazy.’ ABIODUN OWOLABI and EMMANUEL ANYANWU spoke to fashion enthusiasts on crazy things they had done in the name of pandering to stylish conventions.

Daniel Okolie
I was planning for a show, and I wanted to look different. So, I decided to wear a flowing agbada, a fez cap with nice sneakers. When I got there, all eyes were on me.

Linda Sunday
I ran out of lip gloss and I wanted to go out. I simply improvised by using my hair cream instead.

Anuoluwa Olajide
I was to attend my friend’s birthday party and the dress code was white top and mini jeans skirt. However, as I didn’t have a jeans skirt, I embarked on an emergency DIY project. I changed my bum shorts into a jeans skirt. It was crazy.

Agnes Sanni
One time, I made holes on my plain jeans trousers, all in the name of following that crazy jeans trend. However, I was sent back from the school gate by the security man. The guard said I was dressed for the farm and not for a school environment.

John Matthew
I grew my hair to afro level, braided one side, and left the other side with no hair at all.

Emmanuel Ofulue
I wore my jeans trouser backwards, ripped all through. Then, I wore denim shorts over the jeans, with a sleeveless vest as a top outfit. The reaction is best imagined, as I wore that to class.

Rosemary Eni
I fixed a white weavon. At first, I felt elated after making the hair because it seemed I was attracting so much attention. People who walked past me turned to take second looks. However, honestly, I later felt embarrassed because at some point, the attention became too much.

Tosin Akinrinmade
Nowadays, it is not unusual to see ladies wear short dresses with sneakers. So, I took mine a step further. I wore sneakers on a gown made with Ankara.
