The United States Embassy in Abuja has announced Crade2Harvard International School as the winner of the 2024 edition of the Martin Luther King (MLK) Creative Arts competition.
The completion, which took place at the US Embassy in Abuja, on Thursday, 18 January, had finalists from five schools.
According to a Letter of Invitation by the Embassy, signed by its Country Education Specialist, Folashade Adebayo, “Dr King’s remembrance is an important event, which presents an opportunity to reflect on his contributions through non-violent approach to civil rights and freedom of speech.
The participating schools each made a presentation before a three-man panel.
“Your school will have five minutes for its presentation, a panel of judges will grade each performance on its merit from the students and a final winner will emerge,” the letter said.
The event, which was undertaken on behalf of the Embassy, by its Public Diplomacy Section requested each school to perform using their creative skills through spoken words, a short playlet, poem presentation, singing or a rap.
At the end of the presentation, pupils of Cradle2Harvard International School were announced as the winners.
The school’s performance through spoken words, from their six-man cast, thrilled the judges, audience and other diplomats at the event to rousing applause.
The captain of the Cradle 2 Harvard Poetry Club, Ellone Ijeoma Afor, said that the school’s performance at the competition was a testimony to the pupils’ relentless drive to sustain the vision of the founders as well as the diligence of their coach, Ms. Tamara Dogubo.
Afor, who said that with their performance today, ‘Martin Luther King resurrected at the American Embassy’, credited the success of the performance to the passion of the school’s President, Mr. Phrank Shaibu for the promotion of creative & performing arts.
