COVID-19: No one is safe until fully vaccinated, says PTF Chairman

Published by

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, on Monday, said until everyone is fully vaccinated, no one is safe from the disease.

This was even as the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), sought the support of religious leaders’ in creating awareness on the COVID-19 vaccine.

The PTF Chairman made the assertion at a sensitisation meeting on COVID-19 vaccine introduction for Christian leaders and scholars on Monday.

He said although the arrival of vaccines has given hope to humanity, this however does not disregard Non-pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs).

His words: “This does not however mean that the NPIs would be discarded. Going forward it shall be NPIs plus vaccines for everyone to completely get over the pandemic.

“I wish to make it abundantly clear that nobody is safe around the world until everyone is vaccinated.”

He stressed that the development is aimed at seeking inputs on the strategy to be jointly adopted and the role religious leaders are to play in disseminating messages on the vaccine.

On his part, the Executive Director, NPHCDA Dr Faisal Shuaib, urged religious leaders to embrace the responsibility of communicating only verified messages from the government and health-related ministries and agencies on the usage of COVID-19 vaccine.

According to him, religious leaders could help stop the spread of rumours by double-checking facts about COVID-19 before sending or sharing such.

He added: “The COVID-19 vaccine brings a practicable sense of hope for all Nigerians whose life has been torn apart from the aftershock of this dreadful pandemic.

“Receiving the COVID-19 vaccine doesn’t only protect one, it is an addition and out of charity towards other members of our community who are susceptible, vulnerable and cannot protect themselves due to one challenge or the other.”

“It would be thought of reliable information to your communities. We respectfully also expect highly communication with accurate information and a unified message.”
