COVID-19: Kogi govt distributes facemasks to drivers, market women

Kogi State Government has distributed facemasks worth millions of naira to drivers and market women in major motor parks and markets in Lokoja the state capital, to prevent the spread of the dreaded coronavirus in the state.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr Saka Haruna, who flagged of the distribution of the materials, said the gesture was part of precautionary measures put in place by the government to curtail the spread of the novel Coronavirus in the State.

Dr Saka who was represented by the Director Administration and Finance, Mr James Ameh in the ministry, said the materials would go along way in curtailing the spread of the pandemic.

The Commissioner disclosed that the present administration of Governor Yahaya Bello would not relent in its efforts to protect the citizens from the dreaded global pandemic.

Dr Saka who noted that though, Kogi state remained free of COVID-19, however, urged the people to follow all protocol put in place by the state and the federal government to curb the spread of the virus.

In his remark, the state Epidemiology, Dr Austin Ojotule while noting that Coronavirus is real, called on the beneficiaries to continue to adhere strictly to preventive measures to hots the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Also speaking, the state Health Educator, Alhaji Yusuf Achefu advised market men, women and drivers to always put on their facemasks to avoid contacting of the virus.

In their separate remarks, the chairman of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers, in Lokoja, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed Kolo represented by Ibrahim Yakubu, the chairman New Market Development Board, Alhaji Danjuma Odiba as well as Chairman Lokogwoma motor parks, Rabiu Amin promised to use the materials distributed to protect themselves from COVID 19 pandemic and commended the state government for remembering them in the distribution.
