Court sets aside expulsion of Unilorin final year student

The Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin has set aside the expulsion of a final year student of the department of Veterinary Surgery in the University of Ilorin, Mr. Alada Babatunde (Alibaba).
The court in the judgement, FHC/IL/CS/2/2019, also ordered the university to reinstate studentship of Mr. Alada Babatunde.
Justice E. N. Anyadike had on Thursday, June 27, 2024 issued an order that University of Ilorin should also award damages of N3 million in the favour of the student for wrongful expulsion.
Alada, who was president of the Association of Veterinary Medical Students (AVMS) in the university during 2016/2017 academic session, was expelled over allegations of misconduct and examination malpractices
(Zoonoses VPH 508).
However, he denied the  wrong doing and challenged the university to court over his expulsion.
Alada was the pioneer president of the Association of Veterinary Medical Students (AVMS) in the university during the 2016/2017 academic session.
“With this ruling, his studentship has been restored, and he is expected to resume his studies immediately.
“This development is a significant win for student rights and a testament to the power of determination and fight for justice.
