A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos presided over by Hon. Justice D. E. Osiagor, has issued an interim order restraining the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, Shola Jejeloye, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, and the Inspector General of Police from arresting, harassing, and inviting the owners of Harmony Gardens and five other persons.
Justice Osiagor’s ruling reads, “Upon reading the affidavit in support, the exhibit attached, an affidavit of extreme urgency, a written address, and statement filed on October 11, 2023, in the Federal High Court Registry, deposed to by Chief Rahman Olakunle, a male, Muslim, community leader, Nigerian citizen, property consultant, and a resident of Abomiti, Epe, Lagos State,”
“An interim order is granted restraining the respondents, whether by themselves, their agents, servants, privies, officers, or whosoever, from further arresting, detaining, inviting, harassing, charging, or taking any untoward action against the applicants in connection with the facts of the case, pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion.”
Chief Rahaman Olakunle, Chief Olasunkanmi Ikuenya, Chief Onayemi Obajimi, Apena Adijat, and Pearl Ehighimetor, on behalf of Harmony Gardens, prayed to the court to restrain the respondents from harassing and arresting them.
The listed respondents include CSP Shola Jejeloye, SP Salako, DSP Otunba, the Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Other Related Offences, the Inspector General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
Two weeks ago, the Lagos State Task Force arrested the owner of Harmony Gardens, Saeed Mosadoluwa, and others over land issues and alleged terrorism. They were subsequently arraigned before the Mobile Court in Oshodi and were granted bail.
After regaining his freedom, the real estate practitioner accused the Task Force chairman, CSP Sola Jejeloye, of involvement in land-grabbing activities.
Mosadoluwa, commonly known as Ibile, alleged that the Task Force had put his life at risk and accused its chairman of turning the agency into a land-grabbing outfit. He also accused the Task Force of flagrant abuse and disregard for a court order.
Mosadoluwa raised the alarm that his life is under threat from suspected assassins and called on the Inspector General of Police to set up an independent investigation team to look into the activities of the Lagos Task Force.
