Court restrains Bayero, four others from parading themselves as Emirs

A Kano State High Court, presided over on Monday by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, has perpetually restrained Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and four other dethroned emirs from parading themselves as emirs of Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

In delivering the judgement, Justice Amina Aliyu further restrained the 15th Emir of Kano and the other four Emirs, including their servants, privies, and any other persons appointed by them, from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye.

It will be recalled that the Kano State Government had filed a case asking the State High Court to stop the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four other Emirs of Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya from parading themselves as Emirs.

Additionally, it will be recalled that the state government gave the deposed emirs 48 hours to vacate their respective palaces after being deposed.

However, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, while delivering the judgement, said that the issue of evicting the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, from his Nassarawa palace is a Rent Tribunal matter and is not before her.

In her judgement, she directed the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the four others to quickly hand over all the Emirate traditional royal artefacts to the government and the substantive Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu also stated that the State Assembly Emirate Council Law 2024 was enacted in accordance with the due processes of law as enshrined in Section 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

She then ruled that the State Governor’s assent to the law was also done perfectly according to the Constitution of the country.
