Court remands six men in prison for alleged armed robbery

AN Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded six men in prison for alleged armed robbery.

The defendants are; Matthew Anuya, 20; Patrick Sunday, 30; Emeka Okonkwo, 28; David Eshare, 22; Isaac Eyong, 25 and Ekene Okata, 26.

The defendants whose addresses were not given are standing trial on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Oladejo Balogun told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences on May 11, at 5.20a.m. at Ilasan, Lekki in Eti-Osa area of Lagos.

He alleged that the defendants armed themselves with a dangerous weapon such as hammer, spoon, wheel spanner and forcefully dispossessed one Adeyanju Olaolu of his techno phone worth N60, 000 as well as cash and other valuable items.

Balogun said that the defendants inflicted injuries on Olaolu with the weapons while stealing from him.

He alleged that one of the defendants, Eshare, broke into another complainant’s house, one Lexy Mojo-Eyes and stole a Dell laptop worth N130, 000.

He said that one of the defendants, Okata, stole one Techno phone worth N5, 000 from another complainant, Femi Thomas.

He said the offences contravened Sections 173, 287, 298, 299 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants’ pleas were not taken while the Magistrate, Mrs K. K. Awoyinka, remanded them in prison and ordered that their case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until May 28, for mention.
