Court remands prophetess for stealing neighbour’s life turkey

Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Monday, remanded one Prophetess Sola Ajayi (41)  in prison custody for stealing neighbour’s life turkey.

Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode remanded the accused in prison custody pending perfection of bail applications applied for by her defence counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde.

Ijiyode granted the bail of the accused in the sum of N30,000 with one surety in like sum, saying the surety must be a civil servant, swear to affidavit of means and resides within the court’s jurisdiction.

But unfortunately, nobody showed up to stand for her as surety and the magistrate remanded her in prison custody till perfection of her bail applications.

However, the accused, who was arraigned on one-count charge of stealing, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 16 around 4.00 p.m. at Iloromu Quarters, Mokuro, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said the accused stole one Canadian life turkey valued at N30, 000, property of one Khadijat Lamidi.

He added that the offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The case was adjourned till November 26 for hearing.
