A Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital, has ordered the remand of a middle-aged man, Dayo Idowu, to Olokuta Correctional Service Centre, for allegedly stabbing a commercial driver to death.
The accused was dragged before the court over the stabbing and killing of one Shehu Saka, with a broken bottle on his stomach which led to his death.
The prosecution told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 16, 2019, at about 7 am at Onyearugbulem area, Akure, in the Akure Magisterial District.

The offence which contravened sections 316 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Uloh Goodluck, applied for the remand of the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Service Centre, pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
However, Counsel to the defendant, Omotayo Omoedu pleaded that the defendant is returned back to the police clinic due to his health challenges.
He informed the court that the defendant was discharged from the clinic just to appear in court, but the plea was turned down.
Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju, ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Correctional Service Centre, pending the issuance of the legal advice from the DPP’s office.
Adeyanju, directed that the Olokuta medical centre to monitor the defendant’s health, while the case was adjourned till March 6, 2020.
