Court remands man in prison custody for alleged assault, breach of peace

AN Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, remanded God’s Power Johnson, 37, for alleged assault, breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Insp Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 4 around 12:30 p.m. at Erefe Community via Ile-Ife.

Emmanuel said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit: assault.

He added that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that was likely to cause the breach of peace by beating one Olalere Hammed.

Emmanuel said that the defendant assaulted one Olalere Hammed by cutting his left hand with a cutlass which caused him a deep wound.

The prosecutor added that the offence contravened Sections 249 (d), 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and assault.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Bolaji Adewale, who applied for the bail of the defendant in the most liberal term, pledged that his client would not jump bail, but would produce substantial sureties.

The magistrate, Olukunle Owolawi, did not grant the bail of the defendant but ordered for his remand in Ile-Ife prison custody.

Owolawi adjourned the case until June 13 for ruling on bail.
