A Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that a 29-year-old man, Bashir Dauda, who pleaded guilty to defrauding his business partner of N650, 000 be remanded in a correctional facility, pending sentencing.

Dauda pleaded guilty to receiving N650, 000 from the complainant.

”I put the money towards another business. I promise to pay her back.

“I will sell my land to pay back the money, I am very sorry, please have mercy,’’ he said.

Magistrate Muinat Oyekan adjourned the case until Feb 17 for sentencing.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that Dauda deceived the complainant, Ms Franca Ondoma, into giving him N650,000 to buy some cows for her.

Olanipekun said Dauda converted the money to his personal use.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor prayed the court to order Dauda to pay back the N650,000 to the complainant.
