Court remands in prison lawyer who allegedly murdered her husband

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of Mrs Udeme Odibi, who allegedly killed her husband, a lawyer, in Kirikiri Female Prisons.

Odibi, was docked before the court on a count charge bordering on murder by the Police.

According to the prosecutor, Mr Effiong Asuquo, a Chief Superintendent of Police, Udeme committed the offences on the 3rd of May at her residenceDiamond Estate, Sango-Tedo, Lagos.

Udeme it was gathered stabbed her husband multiple times by ripping out his intestine and genitals with a knife.

He urged the court to remand the forty-seven-year-old lawyer in prisons custody, pending an advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP.

Udeme’s counsel, Mr Oluseye Bamijoko informed the court that the result of psychiatric evaluation carried out on his client was not made available to them.

In her ruling, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kikelomo Ayeye ordered that the accused be remanded pending an outcome of legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecution.

Udeme had also brought an application asking the court to order that her deceased husband’s burial slated for Thursday be halted.

The Magistrate declined the request to stop the planned burial of the deceased saying that will be a rude interruption to the right of the deceased.

The Magistrate thereafter adjourned the matter till June 25 for a report of DPP advice.
