Court judgement on ISI hijab case excites parents

THE Muslim Parents Forum of the International School, Ibadan (ISI) has described as a welcome development, the Tuesday judgement of the state High Court in Ibadan in respect of a suit over the use of hijab by female Muslim students of the school.

The presiding judge, Justice Moshood Isola, had struck out an application for a stay of execution filed by the management of the school against a May 2024 judgement of the court which granted female Muslim students of the school the right to wear their hijab on their uniform.

The chairman of the parents’ forum, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, in a reaction, described the judgement as victory for the schoolchildren who he said had continued to relate harmoniously with one another as they pursue their academic careers, irrespective of tribe or faith.

Balogun said the judgement also gave testament to the international status of the school which, according to him, ought to encourage the inclusion of all students without prejudice to religion or any other factor.
