Court asked to nullify appointment of Bakre as Agura of Gbagura

AN Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta has been asked to declare the appointment of Saburee Babajide Bakre to fill the vacant stool of Agura of Gbagura as null and void by one of the contestants for the stool of Agura of Gbagura, in Abeokuta Ogun state, Prince Adetayo Falilu Adeosun.

Adeosun had through his legal counsel filed a Writ of Summons in a suit delineated AB/205/19, asking the court for an injunction restraining Bakre from parading or holding himself out as Oba Agura-elect of Gbagura and from presenting himself to anybody whatsoever for any installation as the Agura of Gbagura.

He also asked the court to declare that the election of Bakre by the kingmakers was irregular and of no effect and give an order directing the Egiri Ruling House to present a candidate to the kingmakers in accordance with the Agura Chieftaincy Declaration of 1958.

He further asked the court to restrain the Governor of Ogun State or his agents from giving effect to the purported appointment of Bakre as the Agura of Gbagura.

Citing the Agura of Gbagura Chieftaincy Declaration, Adeosun claimed in his process before the court that he is the only son out of the 10 candidates that signified their intention to fill the vacant stool of Agura of Gbagura chieftaincy that follows no religion

He further claimed that Bakre was not qualified to be nominated for the Agura stool, adding that even though it was the turn of the Egiri Ruling House to present the next king, there was no meeting of the house where Bakre was purportedly selected as the new king, alleging that a member of the family, a retired judge merely used his influence to foist Bakre on the family even when he knew that he was not qualified to be appointed the king.
