Court adjourns EFCC’s suit against Adegboruwa

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of a Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday, further adjourned till January 30 and 31, continuation of trial of a rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, charged with lease of attached property by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).

It would be recalled that the EFCC had charged the Adegboruwa on one count bordering on lease of a Lagos property attached by an order of court.

The case which was earlier slated for a continuation of trial could not go on Thursday due to the absence of the judge.

Following an agreement reached by the prosecution and defence counsels, a new trial date was fixed for January 30 and 31.

At the last adjourned date, in June, the prosecutor Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, had led his second witness, Mr Teslim Ajuwon, in examination in chief.

The witness, a compliance officer with a first generation bank, had tendered documents relating to the accused’s statement of account, as evidence of the alleged transaction.

In the one count charge, the accused was alleged to have conspired with one Jonathan Udeagbala (now at large) to lease out a property located at No 105, NICON Town Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

The property was said to be the subject of an interim order of attachment issued by Justice C.A Balogun of a Lagos High Court, on June 18, 2012.

The said property was said to have been leased to one Shelf Drilling Nig. Ltd for over N61 million without the consent of the EFCC.

The offence is said to have contravened the provisions of Section 32(1) of the EFCC Act, 2004.
