The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has acquitted Mr Mark Obisesan and his co-defendants of all 11 charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a case that commenced in 2019.
Justice I.O. Ijelu delivered a scathing critique of the EFCC’s investigation, describing it as “haphazard and woeful.”
The judge concluded that the prosecution had failed to establish any connection between the defendants and the alleged offences, which included possession of forged traveller’s cheques and conspiracy to purchase forged bank notes.
The case, which spanned five years, was marked by numerous delays and adjournments before reaching its conclusion today.
Obisesan, alongside co-defendants Olumide Mcintoush, Bolaji Bakare, and Goodluck Bazunu, had consistently maintained their innocence since their initial arraignment.
Following the verdict, a relieved Obisesan criticised the EFCC’s handling of the case, stating, “Such poorly investigated cases should not be taking the time of hard-working judges.”
He expressed gratitude for finally clearing his name after years of legal struggles.
