Couple ends marriage after 14 days

In Lusaka, Zambia, David Banda and Doris Mutale ended their marriage just 14 days after tying the knot, in a highly unusual situation.

David, 41, who works at Beautiful Living Company, sought the divorce because he did not want Doris, 29, due to her ability to have children.

Before their wedding, David had paid K13,000 of the K15,000 dowry but later canceled the major celebrations, opting instead for a small ceremony.

Shortly after their marriage, David asked Doris to move out and stay with her family for a month, citing the need to resolve issues with his ex-girlfriend, who turned out to be his former wife, Sarah.

Doris later discovered that David had been married three times before and had been dishonest about his past. In a recorded confession, David admitted his fear of having more children and sharing his property as the reason for wanting to leave Doris.

He also claimed Doris was too insecure, accusing him of infidelity and making unreasonable demands. Magistrate Lombe Chibesakunda granted the divorce and ordered David to pay K6,000 in compensation to Doris.

The court advised David to reconsider his approach to relationships, warning that repeatedly marrying and divorcing women only causes harm.
