MANAGING Director and Editor-in Chief of African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, Publishers of the Tribune titles, Mr Edward Dickson, has reiterated the readiness and interest of the company to partner with well-meaning citizens and associations to drive education in Nigeria.

He also noted the interest of the organisation in anything that has to do with education, health and agriculture, saying these were the areas the founder of the newspaper, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was interested in during his lifetime.

He said this when national delegation of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) led by its president, Professor Elizabeth Omotude Egbochukwu, paid a visit to the Tribune House, with respect to the association’s forth coming 45th international conference scheduled for August 17 where the organisation will be honoured with an institutional award for its contribution to the association and the country in general.

Dickson commended CASSON for its thoughtfulness in recognising the organisation as an institution of repute, noting that the organisation always pays critical attention to education because it is a national and legacy institution.

He stated that CASSON and ANN Plc share a common goal in the sense that Chief Awolowo, though a politician, spent all his lifetime educating and enlightening others.

While he recognised CASSON as a very important and influential association that is contributing a lot to human capital development, the ANN MD/EIC said: “We need associations like yours to team up with us to begin to reconnect with the youth, to bring them back from the precipice.

“The youth have done a lot of damage, but as elders, we owe our children the responsibility of guiding them, not folding our arms.”

He assured the association of partnership, promising full coverage of the forth coming CASSON international conference.

In her remarks, the national president of the association, Professor Egbochukwu who commended Dickson for the warm reception, called for partnership and appealed for full cover age of the conference.

She also sought the cooperation of the medium in ensuring that the CASSON bill receives dent the assent of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We don’t seem to know what to do right now, kindly assist us to get the president to give assent to our bill through your advocacy. We cannot afford to start the process all over again,” she said.

On the CASSON delegation were the secretary general of CASSON, Professor E. A Awoyemi; chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the conference, Professor Ayo Hammed; chairman, Oyo CASSON, Dr Ndidi Ofole and chairman, publicity for LOC, Mr Femi Babatunde, among others.
