The governing council of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), has commended the vice chancellor and management of the university for the infrastructural and sundry development in the institution.
Chairman of the council, Professor Tunde Samuel, who gave the commendation during a visit to the university, said the Federal Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) also deserve commendation for the development witnessed by the young university.
Professor Samuel said the vice chancellor, Professor Kayode Soremekun, and his management team had proved that if given more funds and greater autonomy, they could turn FUOYE to a first class university.
Samuel said with greater financial and management autonomy, FUOYE would achieve more at its campuses in Oye and Ikole.
He said he was satisfied with majority of the physical structures on ground in the institution but also warned contractors handling various jobs in the institution not to take the university for a ride, as the could be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Professor Samuel called for timely release of funds by the Federal Government for the quick completion of the physical structures already ongoing in the institution, saying with this, the school would move very fast in its quest for development.
Speaking on the occasion, the vice chancellor, Professor Soremekun, said a lot had been done in terms of physical structures, but that more still needed to be done for the growing population in the institution.
One of the facilities inspected include a completed 3-in-1 science laboratory but yet to be handed over to the school by the contractor who locked it up. The council chairman described the job as “a masterpiece” , and called on the relevant authorities concerned to facilitate payment to the contractor who has about N82 million balance on the project valued at about N164 million.
Others include the Central Library, ICT Building, 500 capacity lecture theatre, and male hostel, among others.
