The National Youth Council has tasked the Federal Government  to further empower and encourage the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) over its quest to make post-secondary education available to all classes of people in the country.

It also commended the university for its education programme for prison inmates across Nigeria.

Vice chairman, north central of the NYC, Alfa Ebune, who said this in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, said the move to give education to prison inmates had further given hope to prisoners serving jail terms.

According to him, NOUN since inception had been contributing to the educational development of the country, saying there was the need for the Federal Government to further support it.

He also commended the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Abdallah Adamu; and the registrar, Felix Edoka, for the efforts they had put in place to ensure that the university was able to deliver its mandate.

He noted that the platform of NOUN had been used to ensure behavioural change in the society.

Ebune also urged international donor agencies in the education sector like the UNESCO, World Bank among others to support the university with technology and fund to be able to promote the country.

He charged Nigerians, particularly the working class, to take advantage of the university and improve themselves to enable them contribute to the development of the country.
