The Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, Prophet (Dr) Solomon Alao, has said that the fight against corruption in the country will be won permanently when pensionable benefits are paid promptly and employees are assured of regular and prompt payment in retirement.
Speaking at the 2017 annual general conference of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria at Galilee land, Ilorin-Ibadan expressway, at the weekend, Dr Alao said it was when the measures were in place that temptation by public officers to employ corrupt means to take care of post-retirement years while in office would be discouraged.
The cleric, who said that a position of “no retreat, no surrender” should be adopted in the fight against corruption by the present government, however, said that there should be no sacred cows.
He acknowledged efforts of the present government in tackling social ills since it came to power, but said that it was not yet Uhuru.
He added that there were still grey areas in unemployment, irregular power supply, herdsmen attacks, among others.
“Enlisting the support of the local vigilante groups and intelligence gathering will be very crucial in that regard. Kidnapping, armed robbery particularly in rural settings, as it affects banks, should be given a thought,” he said.
Prophet Alao also said government at all levels should hands off religious affairs, adding that money spent on sponsoring pilgrimages should be channeled to other mass-oriented ventures.
He said all other states should join Lagos State and others to approve death penalty for anyone found guilty of kidnapping.
Against the present cry of economic hardship among Nigerians, the deputy governor of Oyo State, Chief Moses Adeyemo, who represented Governor Abiola Ajimobi, at the event, said the situation would have been worse if not for the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
Chief Adeyemo also called for unity among Christians, irrespective of denomination.
