Wife of the Cross River State governor, Mrs Eyoanwan Otu, has donated 100 bags of rice, a cow and an undisclosed sum of money to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state.
The governor’s wife, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender Mainstreaming, Dr. Inyang Asibong, said the gesture is to bolster the corps members comfort and encourage them to stay back in the state after their service year.
Asibong also promised to listen to their grievances through the state coordinator, Mr. Zemoh Andrew Jebo and will present them to Governor Bassey Otu.
Receiving Mrs Out’s entourage, the NYSC camp coordinator in the state, Mr Jebo, guided them on inspection around the Obubra NYSC camp, such as the healthcare centre, restrooms and hostels.
Jebo acknowledged the fact that in all his stay in Cross River State, this is the first wife of the governor who has come to the NYSC camp, Obubra to support the welfare of the camp.
The coordinator disclosed that he had taken delivery of the 100 bags of rice and a cow, adding that the items were received with elation by both the corps and camp officials.
The coordinator said the donation of the items will help mitigate the challenges faced by the corps during the orientation exercises.
Expressing delight at the gesture, the camp’s traditional dancers performed different dances from different parts of the country.
