Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has suspended the Chinese Language Programme following the outbreak of coronavirus.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Charles Esimone disclosed this to journalists yesterday, during a press briefing to unveil its programme for the forth-coming fourteenth convocation ceremony of the Institution.
According to Professor Esimone, most of the Chinese Lecturers of the Confucius Institute of the University went on holiday last December and they had to stop them from coming back immediately the disease broke out early this year.

Professor Esimone said because of the importance of the program, the university is considering starting the program online, to fill the void.
He added that the efforts of the management of the university has made a great leap into the first one thousand universities in the university ranking, as against being above number two thousand previously.
The Vice-Chancellor also enumerated measures taken to ensure the quality of teaching in the University to include the introduction of the clock-in and clock-out system, monitor lectures and students in examination using CCTV to ensure the lecturers are doing their job and to also stop students from cheating during examination.
