Coronavirus: Restrict movement to China Anambra govt urges citizens

Anambra State government has cautioned its citizenry to restrict their travels to Wuhan in China due to the contagious nature of the disease coronavirus.

Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C.Don Adinuba, in a statement said, “the Coronavirus may have started in Wuhan, China, but it is a clear and present danger to the international community, including Anambra State.”

Adinuba said that the Anambra State government decided on this travel advisory to its people, given that people from the state are reputed as the most travelled Nigerians, if not Africans.

He said avoiding the city of Wuhan, China, for now, despite its allure as an industrial and transportation hub is important to ensure they do not contract the virus.

Adinuba asked any Anambra entrepreneur or traveller who has been to China in the past three weeks to also report to the state’s Ministry of Health in  Awka.

According to him, “Our screening facilities are available free-of-charge for all who feel somewhat endangered by the new highly contagious disease.”

The Anambra State government notes that the Coronavirus has been confirmed to have spread to 16 countries in Asia, North America and Asia. It is feared to have reached Cote d’Ivoire.

The government also advised those that had travelled abroad to maintain high hygienic standards, wash their hands regularly and maintain minimum physical contact with people.

He added, “The safety and comfort of every Anambra person, whether at home or abroad, will remain on the priority list of the Governor Willie Obiano administration.”
