Anambra State Government has placed all its entry points under full-scale watch as part of precautionary measures towards containing coronavirus from the state.
The state has a boundary with six states including Enugu, Imo, Abia, Delta, Kogi and Rivers.
This followed the government’s multi-sectoral approach aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus involving the use of temperature readers to check commuters at the border points.
Disclosing this to newsmen yesterday during an inspection tour of some border areas at Onitsha Head Bridge and Amansea, the State Commissioner for Transport, Dr Christian Madubuko, said interstate commercial buses must provide passengers manifest.
He reiterated the compelling need for transport operators to imbibe the habit of moving with passengers manifest at this challenging time to ease contact tracing in the event of any identified case.
“We are trying to see that those coming from other states comply with our directives. We want to check where they are coming from, where they are going.
“We have our monitoring teams in other areas to make sure no place is left out in this task”
Dr Madubuko said while inspecting the manifest, he enjoined drivers to as a matter of urgency install sanitizers, washing hand equipment with water and detergent as well as temperature reader for commuters.
He advised that any commuter with high temperature or suspected case of the virus should be reported to the Health Ministry or relevant agencies for immediate diagnosis.
Some of the drivers who spoke with Tribune Online commended the initiative of the state government in tackling the global health emergence.
Mr Amechi Aluu, a driver with Romchi Mass Transit Ltd, appreciated the effort of the monitoring team, but quickly noted that some of the requirements be directed to the management of the company.
Mr Fidelis Ehirinne of the Enugu State Transport Company(ENTRACO) pledge to comply with the approved sitting arrangement for the social distancing of commuters, while Anyaegbulem Nwulu of Ifeanyi Chukwu Motors, described the exercise as timely.
