CONYL condemns sealing of ex-gov Ortom’s firm

Published by

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), the umbrella body of all youth groups, has condemned the sealing of Oracle Business Limited, owned by former Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, over an alleged N93.5 million tax default.

CONYL highlighted that Oracle Business Ltd has been a significant source of employment for the youth in Benue State.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Owerri, CONYL President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, expressed disappointment in Governor Hyacinth Alia, suggesting that his actions—through the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS)—indicate a disregard for youth employment by shutting down the company.

He said, “it is very unfortunate that the BIRS acting Chairman, Mr. Sunday Odagba and Board Secretary/Legal Adviser, Mr. Ushahemba Dekaa will allow themselves to be used by the governor to perpetuate anti-people and anti-democratic practices in a democratic setting.”

The youth body stated that the sealing of Oracle Business Ltd is politically motivated and called for its immediate unsealing by the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS).

He said, “everybody is away that the is hunger and food shortage in the land. The sealing of the Oracle Business Ltd is a well calculated attempt to keep the workers out of work and business in other to make them go to bed hungry”.

CONYL called on Governor Alia to face the terrorists killing the good people of Benue State on daily basis and leave Dr. Samuel Ortom and his business concern alone.

According to him, Dr Ortom during his tenure as governor served the good people of Benue State very well which the people are grateful for.

They therefore called on the governor  to face governance and leave Dr Ortom and his business alone.
