Controversy trails Oyo APC congress committee membership as picture of Gambo Lawan with committee members surfaces

The controversy over membership of the state congress committee that conducted the congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State swelled on Monday, following two various documents that surfaced showing variations in the membership of the congress committee.

Chairman of the committee, Gambo Lawan, had, on Sunday, disowned four members of the committee, when he released a statement that they were not part of any congress and did not instruct the committee Secretary, Abdullahi Bello, to conduct the congress.

The four members, who dissociated themselves from the process, in the statement released on Sunday, were Olanrewaju Edun, Abdullai Kontagora, Diran Iyantan and Ralph Igbokwe.

List of the congress committee members

Apparently, as a result of Lawan disowning the four persons, a document, that had stamp of National Secretary, APC, containing names and phone numbers of the seven-man state congress committee members surfaced on Monday.

The stamped sheet of paper that surfaced online, entitled: “State Congress Committee Members” showed Gambo Lawan as Chairman, Abdullahi Bello as Secretary and Raphael Igbokwe, Diran Natan, Edun Olanrewaju, Abubakar Abdullah and Peace Chikelu as members.

The list of the seven-man committee was said to have been submitted to the Oyo state chapter of the party by Gambo Lawan on arrival in Ibadan for the congress on Friday, October 29.

Similarly, a picture of Gambo with some committee members also surfaced online.

However, another letter addressed to Gambo Lawan, signed by Secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, John Akpanudoedehe, titled “Letter of Appointment: State Congress Committee” also surfaced on Monday.

The letter that bore the logo of the All Progressives Congress, and dated 29th October, 2021, showed Gambo Lawan as Chairman; Abdullahi Bello as Secretary; Isiaka Ibrahim, Audu Ajanaku, Zubair Amoka, Chikelu Peace and Abubakar Abdullahi as members.
