Contribute towards national development, Ajimobi urges corps members

The Oyo state Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state to contribute their own quota to the national development.

This statement was made by the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2018 Batch ‘C’ stream II joint orientation course for Oyo and Ogun states’ corps members deployed to the state.

Ajimobi, who was represented by the commissioner of youth and sports, who also doubles as the chairman, Oyo State NYSC governing board, Hon Abayomi Oke, said the NYSC one year mandatory service year was designed towards ensuring that the youths contribute their own quota to the country’s growth and national development.

“As you all know, this is a clarion call to contribute profoundly your quota to the overall growth and development of our dear fatherland, with consistent display of resilence and hardwork.

“The National Youth Service Corps is a beacon of hope and reference point when it comes to productive channeling of youthful intelligence, energy and skills for national development,” He said.

He, however, assured the corps members of sustained conducive environment throughout their service year.

While commending the state governing board for their immense support towards the pursuit of the objectives of the scheme, he appealed to the people of Oyo State to ensure that the corps members are well taken care of in their respective domains.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Oyo State NYSC coordinator, Eniola Ambekemo said a total number of 1,909 corps members were registered, with 1,261 for Oyo State and 648 for Ogun State, comprising 856 males and 1053 females.

Ambekemo urged the corps members to enhance and protect the good names of their predecessors and also contribute to the unity, integration and advancement of Oyo State and Nigeria.

The NYSC Ogun state coordinator, Mrs Josephine Bakare, also advised the corps members to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) seriously which is geared towards making the corps members self reliant, creators of wealth and employers of labour.

The corps members were officially sworn in by Hon Justice Aderonke Aderemi, who represented the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Muktar Abimbola, at the ceremony.
