Construction of quarters for 40 Judges will boost performance — CJN

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has expressed confidence that the construction of 40 Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District, Abuja, will enhance the performance of judicial officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking at the project’s flag-off ceremony on Monday, the CJN emphasised that the initiative marks a major milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of judicial officers.

She noted that providing judges with a conducive living environment is essential to enabling them to focus on the weighty responsibilities they carry.

“Beyond the courtroom, a supportive and conducive living environment is essential to their ability to focus on the heavy responsibility entrusted to them,” Justice Kekere-Ekun stated.

She further highlighted that judges require peace of mind, security, and comfort in their residences to perform their duties with full attention and efficiency.

The construction of these homes, she said, represents a concrete step towards supporting judicial officers by acknowledging the link between their mental well-being and living conditions.

“These homes will provide a secure and tranquil environment, enabling judicial officers to perform their duties with greater focus, efficiency, and clarity of mind.

“The ability of judicial officers to perform their functions is strengthened when their well-being is prioritised and their work conditions are conducive,” the CJN added.

Also present at the event were the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, among other dignitaries.
