In a bid to ensure unity and harmony in the Ekiti State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stakeholders have resolved to adopt consensus arrangements ahead of the forthcoming congresses.
The consensus agreement was reached by leaders and members of the party during an enlarged stakeholders meeting held in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.
Speaking, the caretaker committee chairman of the party, Chief Dare Adeleke explained that the decisions of the members is in the interest of the party’s survival and growth in the state
Adeleke expressed confidence that the forthcoming ward, local government and state congresses would produce credible and committed members who will pilot the affairs of the party towards victory in future elections.
According to him, “Our target is to build a party that can win elections. Having structures to yourself without capacity to win elections is a journey to nowhere. It is not enough to fight for structures.
” It is not enough to say you, as a leader, you want to control the structure of your ward, local government, or state alone without carrying others along. We must run all-inclusive political structures at ward, local, and state levels.
” Everybody must be given a sense of belonging. Everybody must be given due recognition. When we do that, we will be stronger together.
” We must be ready to sacrifice anything for the progress and unity of the party. Our key word here today is sacrifice. Some of our leaders must be ready and prepare to shift their stands on certain critical issues. A little to the left, a little to the right. We must bear in mind that we can’t have it all. Nobody can have it all, but in the end, we will achieve a robust and formidable party that can reclaim the government house for us.
” We must harmonise our positions, especially on ward, local, and state excos, so that we can have a rancor free congress. We must come up with a unity list at every level. Like i said earlier, nobody can have it all. We must be able to accommodate one another. That is the sacrifice I preached earlier.”
On the activities of some members working against the interest of the party, the chairman said, ” Those who are enjoying and profiting from the perpetual division in the party should enjoy it while it lasts. Those days are gone. Our leaders are together now
“Those who are boasting they want to retire the founding fathers of the party, those who are boasting they have Abuja in their pockets, those who arrogate importance they don’t have should reconsider their stand. Abuja will not support anything other than what we agree collectively as stakeholders and leaders of the party. Therefore, I say to you, our resolutions here today supercedes anything else as far as the congresses are concerned.”
Adeleke stated that the leaders have resolved to work together towards defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 governorship election.
