Confusion trails APC senatorial primaries in Anambra

A senatorial aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Azubuike Okwosa has faulted the purported report making the rounds that Sen Andy Uba has emerged the candidate to represent Anambra South senatorial zone in the 2019 general election.

Okwosa who briefed newsmen in Awka, the Anambra state capital yesterday, on rumours that the primary election process has been conducted in Anambra and result announced, however, denied that the election process has been done, arguing that the primary committee chairman is still being expected in the state.

Wearing a worried look on his face and accompanied by campaign team, Okwosa accused Sen. Andy Uba to have engineered the problems rocking APC in the state, saying that there was no election held anywhere in the 509 wards in the zone, while insisting that he is still in the race.

He disclosed that the primary for senate was supposed to hold yesterday (Wednesday), wondering why Andy Uba’s name is purportedly flying all over the whole place, saying it is decietful.

“Just two days ago we got information that primary committee officials were expected in Anambra, we all waited at the party office for the officials to conduct the primary.

“As far as I am concerned we are still expecting our party officials to conduct the primary. If the online report is correct, then where is the due process? The party has to contact all aspirants on their line of action. Our campaign organization is on ground, and I appealed to my supporters to remain calm and peaceful.”

Answering a question, Okwosa said,” We are still at the primary level. I have confidence that Abuja will address the issue. But if at the end, the online report is authentic, we will definitely react. As far as I am concerned no primary election has taken place in Anambra state.”

It would be recalled that the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena early this week announced a list of cleared aspirants to contest the Senatorial seat in Anambra State including; Senator Andy Uba(Anambra South), Hon. Ebere Obi, Sen. Uche Lilian Ekwunife and Chief Uzoma Igbonwa(Anambra Central) and Engr. Nelson Oseloka Onugbogu (Anambra North).

Okwosa, however, said he was cleared at the screening held at Transcop hotel Abuja, arguing that even if an aspirant was not successful at the screening, there is always a process and the appeal panel, insisting that he has been campaigning across the 509 electoral wards in Anambra.
