The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Adebola Hamzat, has emphasized the need for effective community policing in response to the security situation in the country. Hamzat made this statement during the flag-off of the construction of a police station in Egbeda Atuba community, initiated by Honourable Waheed Akintayo, a member representing Oluyole State Constituency.
The police commissioner highlighted that community policing brings law enforcement closer to the people, enhancing a sense of security among the populace. He commended the lawmaker’s initiative, considering it a valuable addition to the government’s efforts in securing localities and remote areas. Hamzat also urged the people in the state to collaborate with the police by reporting any suspicious movements or activities.
Expressing his satisfaction with Akintayo’s efforts, Hamzat acknowledged the importance of the project in providing a secure environment for the community. He praised the lawmaker for taking on responsibilities typically assigned to the government, emphasizing that such actions were crucial for the welfare of the people.
In his address, Waheed Akintayo, the Oyo lawmaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs, and ICT, explained that the construction of the police station aimed to bring policing closer to the residents of various wards in the constituency. Akintayo disclosed that the project, abandoned for over 13 years, would benefit the entire Oluyole State Constituency and complement the state government’s efforts in enhancing security.

Akintayo emphasized the necessity of the police station, especially considering that residents had previously relied on stations in other local governments for reporting criminal activities.
