Community health workers back out of strike in Nasarawa

THE National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (NACHPN), in Nasarawa State will not participate in a strike proposed by Nigeria Labour Congress on Friday.

The association announced this in a statement by its Chairman, Ali Abubakar-Lulu and Assistant Secretary, Manga Haruna and made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Keffi on Wednesday.

The association urged its members to remain at their duty posts and discharge their normal duty in order to boost the health status of the people of the state.

The association said previous strike did not yield any result to members and that health service was a social service and humanitarian in nature.

“The state  has achieved tremendously in health sector since the inception of this administration as it has constructed 45 offices in the state Primary Health Care Development Agency and constructed model general hospitals, among others,” the statement said.

The officials said the association would desist from being confrontational, adding that it will only appeal to the state government to pay full salaries to community health workers  as a morale booster.

“We will continue to dialogue with state on matters affecting the Primary Health Care system,” the officials added.

NAN reports that the organised labour plans to embark on strike on Friday to protest against non payment of  salary arrears, and percentage payment of salaries to core workers, among other demands.
