Your Life counts

Communicating well (I)

Published by

We are relationship oriented beings. We need meaningful relationships to thrive and survive and a critical component of meaningful relationships is communication.

“Without communication there is no relationship. Without respect there is no love. Without trust there is no reason to continue.” Unknown

The machinery of relationships is oiled by communication.

A relationship where there is no communication is doomed to collapse sooner than later.

“Communication is the fuel that keeps the fire of your relationship burning, without it, your relationship goes cold.” William Paisley

A relationship where the communication is ineffective will be a relationship full of strain, stress and sorrow. If we do not acquire and employ effective communication skills we will be limited in life. Communicating effectively is a major key to keeping our relationships vibrant and meaningful.

“A satisfying relationship with another person requires good communication, mutual understanding and empathy. If there is a significant drop in one of these factors, e.g. we disagree and have an argument, then an upset ensues – we aren’t speaking to one another anymore. We have to get over that barrier and start communicating – which means to begin listen openly and intently as well as to express how we feel. Communication is the solvent of all problems, therefore communication skills are the foundation for personal development.” Peter Shepherd

If our lives will count we must be master communicators. The higher we go in life the better our communication skills must be. No one can rise and stay on top without being effective communicators.

“Talkers have always ruled. They will continue to rule. The smart thing is to join them.” Bruce Barton

We have to learn and acquire communication skills and this will involve  effort.

“Communication is a skill that you can learn. It’s like riding a bicycle or typing. If you’re willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.”  Brian Tracy

Communication skills to acquire include but not limited to listening, non verbal communication, empathy etc

We must not just acquire communication skills but we must also acquire verbal confidence. We must develop ourselves to be able to express ourselves properly and effectively at whatever level we find ourselves.

Communication is extremely important as it will affect every area of our lives.

We must learn to communicate to inform because there will be times when we have to disseminate information, pass across instructions, introduce new ideas for which we will want people to understand. The inability to explain at such times will get us stranded and lead to misunderstanding.

Also we need to be able to communicate  to  persuade people. We will have to at certain points in our lives need to convince people to adopt certain positions, beliefs or cause of action and the inability to communicate to persuade people in such situations will truncate our desires.

“Your ability to negotiate, communicate, influence, and persuade others to do things is absolutely indispensable to everything you accomplish in life.” – Brian Tracy

“Understand that you need to sell you and your ideas in order to advance your career, gain more respect, and increase your success, influence, and income.”  – Jay Abraham
