Wife of Kogi state governor, Mrs Rashida Bello, has expressed her commitment to provision of potable water across the 21 local government areas of the state.
She said this at Isanlu, headquarters of Yagba East local government area and Okura Aloma in Ofu local government at the inauguration of rural water provided for the communities.
Mrs Bello said apart from the water issue, she would continue to give priority attention to the health and welfare of women and children in the state.
She said it had been established that non availability of clean water had been responsible for the spread of some diseases in the rural communities.
According to her, the intervention was aimed at complementing the efforts of the administration of the governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, towards improving the health and wellbeing of the people of the state.
“Water is a very important part of the human life, being a commodity that we cannot do without, especially in a health centre as this.
“Provision of clean and portable water in the community is a step towards avoiding water borne diseases, that accompany the use of water from unhealthy sources, as well as the inconveniences of having to trek very long distances for water,” she maintained
The first lady, who emphasised that a healthy people was an asset to the community, Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole, noted that the New Direction Agenda, of the Bello administration, was tailored towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as it applied to the people of the state.
“It is an undisputable fact that water is life, and I do hope that this water project will make life a lot easier for the people of Isanlu community”.
Speaking at Ofu, the first lady, who spoke through the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Eunice Achuba, stressed the importance of water to human life, stating that more rural water projects would be inaugurated.
She added that the first lady’s pet project, Kogi Women and Youth Advancement Foundation (KOWYAF) was playing a complementary role to the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and taking the dividends of democracy to the people in the rural areas.
