So, a lot of people enter into marriage on faulty premises, thus laying foundation for its eventual failure. Such faulty premises include for monetary gain, status, pressure from family and friends. The other day, I was speaking with a lady, and she revealed that she never knew the relations of her supposed husband. How then did she enter into the marriage?
The point here is that many people enter into marriage without a firm commitment to the fact that marriage is forever. So, the entry point is trivialized. When people understand that marriage is forever, they will take great caution and count the cost very well before entering into it. A lifetime matter requires adequate consideration.
Today, many people are no longer committed to marriage being forever. It is no longer for better, for worse. Rather, it has turned to for better for stay, for worse, for quit. So, the rate of divorce keeps rising. Even the traditionally unapologetically believers in the marriage institution are fast joining the trail of divorce supporters. Or how do we explain the fact of Pastors now divorcing their wives/husbands as the case may be.
If the marriage institution will survive, then everybody will have to embrace the forever status of marriage. When we commit ourselves to this, we will not only take care in entering into marriage, but we will also put every effort into sustaining the relationship. When we realize there is no exit from marriage, we will be ready to make necessary sacrifice to sustain it. It is the fact that we now see options to staying in the marriage that has given rise to increasing rate of divorce. Let us return to the forever status of marriage, and every one of us can live happily together hereafter.
