The Chairman of the Commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Sokoto when he flagged-off the distribution.
He said that the items included 100 bags of rice, textile materials and cash.
Maidoki said the donation was part of the state government’s commitment to support orphans and the needy.
He said that the donation was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the beneficiaries during the Ramadan fast, as well as the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr festivities.
“Zakkat and Endowment Commission is committed to supporting orphans and less privileged persons in the society,’’ Maidoki said, and urged the beneficiaries to utilize the items judiciously.
He urged parents to enroll their children in schools and ensure that their children were immunized to avoid outbreak of diseases among children.
The District Head of Sokoto Garka, Alhaji Buhari Abubakar, said that the district zakkat committee collected N239, 000 from wealthy individuals in the area.
He urged the people to complement the state government efforts by giving out Zakkat and endowment to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged persons in the society.
Also Speaking, the district Head of Sokoto Sabon Birni, Alhaji Malami Maccido, said that the district collected N219, 000 Zakkat from wealthy individuals.
He called on people to give out Zakkat as enshrined in the teachings of Islam to support the needy and orphans.
